There is a town in Madrid that for 4 days forgets its location and is transformed into the Judea of the first century. Buitrago de Lozoya organizes every year the most famous and emblematic Living Nativity Scene of the Community of Madrid, a tradition that this 2025 celebrates its 35th edition and that mobilizes the whole town in a monumental representation of Christmas. From December 13 to 14 and 20 to 21, more than 200 residents become amateur actors to give life to 41 biblical scenes, recreating from the Nativity to a host of trades and markets. The preservation of its medieval wall and the historic center give more packaging to the scenes that are recreated.
The total route is more than 1.2 kilometers through illuminated streets and squares full of life, crafts and animals. The assembly, declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, not only shows static scenes: figures, animals, tools and period costumes (made by volunteers for months) faithfully recreate the daily life of the time of Jesus and, by the way, the traditional work of the northern mountains of Madrid.

Tickets went on sale in early October, but given the high level of interest, this year’s tickets are already sold out. For those lucky enough to get theirs, it is important to note that the route is not adapted for people with reduced mobility, and pets are not allowed.
If you have run out of tickets the village is still one of the few medieval jewels of the region that is worth a visit in any case and given its altitude, it is almost 1000 m high, because it is at the foot of the Sierra del Guadarrama, has more chances of snow during the winter. So you can find the most classic Christmas print if you visit at this time.
The town displays all its hospitality, with craft markets, food stalls and festive atmosphere in every corner, completing the show with music, storytelling and parallel activities to enjoy Christmas with the family.
