Alcorcón is preparing to open Soho City, a massive leisure, cultural, and culinary complex that will transform the former Alcorcón Center for the Creation of the Arts (CREAA) into a new “entertainment city.” The venue covers nearly 66,000 square meters, will feature six stages, and is scheduled to open in December, when the project will be officially unveiled.
Before its official opening, local residents will have the chance to explore the space during an open house from September 4 to 6. This will be the first opportunity to tour part of a complex that remained unfinished for more than a decade and now aims to become a major cultural hub in southern Madrid.
From CREAA to Soho City
Soho City is being built on the site of the former CREAA, a megaproject consisting of eight buildings that began construction between 2007 and 2008 but was halted following the economic crisis. The complex, located in Alcorcón, stood for years as a large, unused structure, known to many residents as “the behemoth.”
The current project aims to revitalize virtually the entire complex—with the exception of the building housing Atenpro—by offering a permanent lineup of cultural, leisure, and experiential activities. Management will be handled by the Wonderland Group, a company associated with venues such as the Gran Teatro CaixaBank Príncipe Pío, the Gran Teatro Pavón, the Teatro Serrano, and Pedraza Castle, with which José Mota and Santiago Segura are affiliated.
Six stages and an auditorium seating 1,600 people
The future complex, which is still 30% incomplete according to the Alcorcón City Council, will feature six stages dedicated to theater, circus, dance, and various other performance formats. Its centerpiece will be an auditorium with more than 1,600 seats that will also function as a theater and is set to become the largest in Madrid in terms of capacity within this category.
The facilities will be distributed across the eight buildings of the former CREAA. In addition to the auditorium, Soho City will feature a configurable performance hall, a space dedicated to the circus, an exhibition hall, an audiovisual hub, and areas for training and cultural management.
The concept goes beyond conventional theatrical programming. The venue plans to host concerts, festivals, film shoots, outdoor movie screenings, large-scale shows, corporate events, and activities related to creativity and the cultural industries.
Dining and Activities
The project will also include a café, a restaurant, and food festivals, so that a visit won’t be limited to attending a show or a concert. The idea is for the complex to be active year-round and to serve as a gathering place for Alcorcón residents and visitors from across the region.
During Alcorcón’s patron saint festivities, held from September 3 to 13, Soho City will offer a first glimpse of this concept. From September 4 to 6, the Mercado de la Fantasía (Fantasy Market) will be set up, featuring stalls and shows for all ages.
How to visit the venue before it opens
The guided open-house tours will take place:
- Friday, September 4: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, September 5: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday, September 6: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The event is free, but spaces are limited and open only to those 18 years of age or older. To participate, you must reserve in advance using the form available on the Soho City website and accept the venue’s access and safety conditions.
