In these past editions of Primavera Sound Barcelona and Oporto, Turnstile was one of the most expected bands. And the magic happened: it is rare not to find them among the best reviews of both festivals. Now, they have announced a date in Madrid: they will play on November 27th at the Palacio Vistalegre. After having sold out the pre-sale for those who registered on the band’s website, the last tickets for the general public are now on sale.
The Baltimore band will be presenting their latest album Never Enough, so you can continue discussing labels and where the hell their music fits in. For the neophytes, here ‘s a sample. This video SEEIN’ STARS / BIRDS comes to say: we are unclassifiable. While their first album, Glow On, screamed hardcore (and never better said), the new album transits and explores sounds closer to dream punk even but without forgetting the hardcore twist.
It is clear that for the purists of the genre, Turnstile is uncomfortable. Their collaborations with bands such as BadBadNotGood or Mall Grab (and the support of Snail Mail on their tour), make them outsiders . Good for them. What is clear is that pogo is back (even among the little ones) and bands like Turnstile prove that guitars are back.
Turnstile: not just music
Probably, the single that bears the name of the album is one of those definitive ones of the summer. The start of the video is the closest thing to visual ASMR, with that fixed shot of whimsical waves breaking in front of the shore. And in the background, the Baltimore band performing what many call hardcore punk and others call alternative rock. Shall we go with hardcore hardcore? Whatever.
The videoclips are important again, at least for Turnstile, who take care of the audiovisual production to the maximum. So much so that they have made a film. This is the visual translation of the fourteen songs of the album Never Enough. The guitars come out of the instrument to become cinema.
More concerts in Spain
In addition to Madrid, Turnstile will also be in Barcelona: it will be three days before, on November 24 at Sant Jordi Club.
