Trillo, in the province of Guadalajara, is beautiful at any time of the year, but when the thermometers in Madrid begin to pass 30º C, it becomes even more appealing. Located in the heart of the Alcarria region and just over an hour and a half’s drive from the capital, this small town is crossed by two rivers, the Tajo and the Cifuentes, and boasts an environment of urban waterfalls, hiking trails and a renowned thermal spa.
Among the great attractions of Trillo is the presence of the waterfalls of the Cifuentes River, which crosses the town center before pouring its waters into the Tagus. The difference in level between the two rivers creates up to five waterfalls, being the Chorrerón Waterfall the most spectacular, with a drop of about 15 meters and a perfect viewpoint to enjoy the scenery and the sound of water. The route through the waterfalls is short, circular and suitable for almost everyone, although there are sections with stairs and iron walkways. It is an ideal walk for families, with children’s playgrounds and picnic areas along the river.
In the vicinity of the waterfalls is the Casa de los Molinos, the oldest building in the village, which today houses the Energy Interpretation Center and recalls the importance of water in local history. The bridges over the Tagus and the Cifuentes, especially the single span bridge, dating from the 16th century, have the best views of the area.
Hot springs and relaxation: the Carlos III Royal Spa.
On the banks of the Tajo, the Real Balneario Carlos III is another great attraction of the town. This four-star hotel, built on the same site where King Carlos III had his original spa built, offers a modern spa with a pool of thermal mineral waters, hydrothermal circuit and jacuzzis, as well as massages and beauty treatments. The waters of Trillo, declared of public utility, have been known for their healing properties and therapeutic use for centuries.
