The birth rate is rising in Madrid; last year, there were 3.3% more births, a figure much higher than the national average of 1%. Even so, the provisional data should be interpreted with caution: the increase does not reverse the downward trend of the past decade, nor does it imply that all families can access these benefits, which remain subject to income, residency, and registration requirements.
The Community of Madrid continues to expand its childbirth benefits, which now amountto up to 14,500 euros per child for mothers up to and including age 35 who are having a third child.
The measure will allow women between the ages of 30 and 35 to access a benefit that until now was intended for mothers under 30, provided they meet the other conditions established in the new call for applications.
The benefit consists of a monthly payment of 500 euros from the 21st week of pregnancy until the child turns two. If received for the entire specified period, the total amount can reach 14,500 euros. The expansion will be incorporated into the Community of Madrid’s upcoming 2027–2031 Birth Rate Strategy, so the administration has yet to specify the effective date, the new income limit, and the application procedure for new beneficiaries.
How the 14,500 euros are calculated
The figure of 14,500 euros is not a lump-sum payment nor an amount paid all at once after the birth. The benefit is paid monthly and amounts to 500 euros for each month it is received.
The period begins in the 21st week of pregnancy and ends when the child turns two. In total, it covers 29 monthly payments: approximately four and a half months of pregnancy plus the 24 months following birth. Multiplying those 29 monthly payments by 500 euros yields the maximum amount of 14,500 euros.
Known requirements and pending conditions

The Community of Madrid has confirmed the age extension for mothers up to age 35 who have a third child, but it has not yet published the final regulations for the new program. This means that important details remain to be finalized, particularly the date when applications can be submitted, whether or not there will be retroactive effects, and what the new income limit will be.
Under the current program for mothers under 30, several requirements must be met:
- Hold Spanish nationality or have legal residence in Spain.
- Be registered as a resident in a municipality of the Community of Madrid at the time of applying for the benefit.
- Have been registered in the region for at least five of the ten years prior to the application.
- Maintain residency in the Community of Madrid during the period in which the benefit is received.
- …be at least 21 weeks pregnant, have a child under two years of age, or have finalized an adoption.
- Do not exceed the income limits established for the current benefit.
Until now, the income limit has been set at a maximum individual income of 30,000 euros per year or 36,200 euros when assessed on a household basis. The Community has announced that it will raise these limits for the new benefit intended for mothers up to age 35 with a third child, but has not yet specified what the final figure will be.
