The Senate (Bailén Street, 3) will celebrate this weekend -on November 28th and 29th- an Open Doors Day that will allow anyone who comes to its facilities to visit it for free inside and without the need to book in advance.
By simply showing your ID card, passport or residence card you will be able to access the building, which will remain open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days for this extraordinary opening.
This XXVIII edition of the Senate Open Doors Day will begin in the Plaza de la Marina Española, with entrance to the Palace through the so-called Puerta del Rey. Afterwards, a tour of some of the most significant rooms of the building will begin.
Among them are the Old Session Room, the Honorary Offices of the Presidency, the Conference Room -where the Senate Throne Chair will be exhibited-, the imposing library and the Manuel Giménez Abad and Manuel Broseta Pont rooms.
What’s new at the Open Days 2025?

The president of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, explains that this year for the first time visitors will be able to see the tombstones that we have recovered with the names of the first four presidents of the Cortes de Cádiz: Don Ramón Lázaro de Dou, Don Benito Ramón Hermida, Don José Miguel Gordoa and Don Diego Muñoz Torrero.
In the Salón de Pasos Perdidos you will be able to see the throne of the Queen, “which was recovered and restored some years ago” and “is only exhibited on the occasion of the Open Doors Day”. It will also be possible to visit the Offices of Honor, which are usually closed to the public and only open to receive Ambassadors and Heads of State.
The Senate’s website encourages the public to participate in these days: “On behalf of the senators and staff of the Senate, we invite you to visit us. We will do everything possible to ensure that you enjoy this experience and take away a magnificent memory of it”.
Guided (and free) tours on weekdays
Beyond the open doors, and whenever the parliamentary activity allows it, the Senate organizes free guided tours during the week, with an approximate duration of one hour. In this case it is necessary to make a reservation in advance through a form.
The schedule of the visits is as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 5 pm.
- Friday: from 10 am to 1 pm.
Finally, there will be no guided tours during the month of August, Easter, holidays and on days when a plenary session is scheduled, so it is advisable to consult the calendar of plenary sessions.
