The school year has begun, and there are still a few months left until the end of 2026, but some residents of Madrid are already looking at the 2027 calendar to plan vacations, getaways, and long weekends. Although the Community of Madrid’s work calendar for next year has not yet been officially published, the placement of several holidays on the calendar makes it possible to predict which long weekends might be the most appealing.
That said, it’s best to treat these dates as a forecast rather than a final schedule. The Community of Madrid must approve the 12 regional public holidays by decree, and each municipality (including the city of Madrid itself) will then have to set its two local holidays. Until these decisions are published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid, there will be no definitive list.
Holidays That Can Already Be Predicted

There are dates that—barring changes in the selection of replaceable regional holidays—already give us an idea of what much of the calendar will look like. In 2027, New Year’s Day will fall onFriday, January 1; Three Kings’ Day will be on Wednesday, January 6; Good Friday will be on Friday, March 26; National Day will be on Tuesday, October 12; All Saints’ Day will be on Monday, November 1; Constitution Day will be on Monday, December 6; and the Immaculate Conception will be on Wednesday, December 8.
It is also known that May 1, Labor Day, will fall on a Saturday; May 2, Community of Madrid Day, on a Sunday; the Assumption of the Virgin on August 15, also on a Sunday; and Christmas, December 25, on a Saturday. These dates will not necessarily mean an extra day off for people who typically work Monday through Friday, unless the Community of Madrid decides to reschedule any of them or include an alternative in its final calendar.
In previous years, the Community has typically moved some holidays that fall on a Sunday. In 2026, for example, the Community moved All Saints’ Day to Monday, November 2, and Constitution Day to Monday, December 7—a decision expressly approved in the regional work calendar.
The December long weekend
December looks set to be the most appealing time for those who want to travel in 2027. Constitution Day will fall on Monday, December 6, and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, December 8. By taking vacation on Tuesday, December 7, Thursday, December 9, and Friday, December 10, you can string together nine days off, from Saturday, December 4, through Sunday, December 12.
However, although Constitution Day and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception are the most eagerly awaited dates of the month, their inclusion in Madrid’s work calendar must be confirmed by regional decree. In 2026, both were included, with Constitution Day moved to Monday, December 7, since the 6th fell on a Sunday, but the 2027 list has not yet been published.
Local Holidays in Madrid
The big question mark for those who work in the city of Madrid is the two local holidays. Each municipality in the Community of Madrid approves its own dates, so the calendar will not be the same in Madrid, Boadilla del Monte, Alcalá de Henares, Getafe, Móstoles, Leganés, Fuenlabrada, or any other municipality.
In the city of Madrid, the local holidays in 2026 were San Isidro Labrador on May 15 and Nuestra Señora de La Almudena on November 9. However, one should not assume that these will automatically be the same dates in 2027, nor that the same arrangement will apply if any of them fall on a weekend. The City Council must formally approve them.
