This Friday, October 2, the Community of Madrid faces a day marked by unstable weather conditions that could be somewhat more severe than usual. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms throughout the region, including the capital, due to forecasts of downpours that could bring up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour. The event will have two periods of highest risk: from early morning until 8:00 a.m. and, again, between 2:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
The advisory affects the three meteorological areas into which AEMET divides the Community: the Sierra, Metropolitan, and Henares regions, and the South, Vegas, and West regions. The forecast calls for cloudy or overcast skies, with a chance of clear spells during the middle of the day, before rainfall and thunderstorms resume in the afternoon. The showers may be locally heavy and accompanied by hail and very strong gusts of wind, especially during the peak of the storm activity.

Although the yellow alert is considered a low-risk level, this does not mean the day will be free of incidents. The expected weather conditions may occasionally disrupt traffic, reduce visibility on roads, and cause rapid water accumulation in low-lying or poorly drained areas. AEMET estimates the probability of reaching these accumulations of 20 liters per square meter in one hour at between 40% and 70%—an intensity that calls for caution when traveling and when making plans for outdoor activities.
High temperatures will drop slightly compared to previous days: in the city of Madrid, temperatures are expected to range between 17 and 24 degrees, while Aranjuez could reach 29 degrees and Alcalá de Henares 27. Given the forecast, it is recommended to check weather updates before heading out, avoid flood-prone areas or areas near waterways during downpours, exercise extreme caution while driving, and call 112 in case of any emergency.
