Madrid is adding a new café to its growing selection of specialty coffee spots. La Cabra, the Danish brand that has become an international leader in the industry, has just opened its first location in Spain. It’s located at 25 Calle Infantas in Chueca and combines a café and an artisan bakery under one roof.
Founded in 2011 in Aarhus, Denmark, by Esben Piper, La Cabra has brought its unique take on coffee and Nordic pastries to cities such as New York, Copenhagen, and Bangkok. Its minimalist aesthetic and famous cardamom buns have influenced coffee shops around the world, and now it has finally arrived in Madrid.
Cardamom buns and coffees priced up to €25
The menu features one of its star products, the cardamom bun (€4.90), as well as canelés (€2.90), sourdough breads, and the “Cheese and Bun,” a Danish breakfast of bread and cheese that costs €7.
As for drinks, you’ll find options like a latte (€4.60) or pour-over coffee (€4). The most exclusive specialty coffees can cost over €25, and there are also creations designed specifically for Madrid, such as a drink flavored with saffron.
A former silversmith’s shop dating back to 1855 in the heart of Chueca
The new café is housed in a building dating back to 1855 that once served as a goldsmith’s workshop. Its interior preserves original features and combines dark wood, granite, terrazzo, and ceramics, with nods to traditional Madrid wine cellars.
