If you’re not living like a count, it’s because you don’t want to (and because you don’t have a few million euros in the bank). About 80 kilometers from Madrid, there’s a private island with a castle over a hundred years old that’s for sale for 3.25 million euros. The property spans more than 10,000 square meters, features a dock, and has a rather unusual characteristic: it can be reached by boat or by car, depending on the water level.
It is Centinela Island, located in the El Burguillo reservoir, within the municipality of El Barraco (Ávila). It is being marketed by the real estate agency Century 21 Homeplace, and on the island stands a stone castle built in 1923, which has been completely renovated and converted into a residence.
A castle with seven suites, an elevator, and views of the reservoir

The building covers approximately 1,000 square meters spread over four floors, connected by an elevator. It was built on the site of an old watchtower and retains its fortress-like architecture, with crenellated towers, stone walls, and terraces offering views of the reservoir.
Inside, there are seven outdoor suites with private bathrooms and fireplaces, some of which also feature a jacuzzi. The property includes a living-dining room, kitchen, garage, and various auxiliary spaces.
An island with private coves that can be reached by car when the water level drops
One of the most striking features of Centinela Island is how it’s accessed. Normally, you have to arrive by boat, using the property’s private dock. However, when the water level in the El Burguillo reservoir drops, the island becomes connected to the mainland, and it’s possible to drive right up to the castle.
The property also has its own energy supply and water treatment systems. It features solar panels, two backup generators, and a water purification system, as well as heating and air conditioning throughout the premises.
The listed sale price is 3,250,000 euros and includes the island’s land and existing structures. The full listing details can be found in the Century 21 ad.
