From July 2030, metro line 9B, which has been managed by Transportes Ferroviarios de Madrid (TFM) for 30 years and connects Puerta de Arganda with Arganda del Rey, will be transferred to Metro de Madrid. In practical terms, this means that subway users will no longer have to change trains: it will be possible to travel from Paco de Lucía to Arganda without having to transfer.
The news was announced by Miguel Núñez, Director General of Infrastructure for the Community of Madrid, during his speech to the Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure Committee of the Madrid Assembly last Friday, in which he stated that “the regional government is not considering any extension of the concession or issuing a new one, “according to statements reported by Europa Press.
With this change, the operation of line 9 will be more similar to how it was when it first opened: as Moisés (@ferromagerit) explains in this video about the history of the line, during its first year, “one in four trains continued to Arganda, and the rest turned back.”
This line was inaugurated in 1999—with the exception of the Rivas Futura station, which would not arrive until 2008—and, with its integration into Metro de Madrid, it will become part of the 300-kilometer network.
The construction of a new station

Likewise, as announced by the Community of Madrid in October 2022, there are plans to build a new above-ground station for line 9 in order to serve residents of the new developments in the southeast: Los Ahijones, Los Berrocales, Los Cerros, El Cañaveral, Ensanche de Vallecas, and Valdecarros.
The future stop, located between Puerta de Arganda and Rivas Urbanizaciones and initially scheduled to come into operation in 2029, will arrive later: the current forecast—after two unsuccessful tenders and a third for €825,873.15 and 14 months of construction, according to documentation accessed by the news agency—is that it will be operational in 2030.
As explained by the regional government when it announced the construction, the new station will be designed to “become a public transport interchange for both residential and tertiary areas of future developments and will have a park-and-ride facility.”
