The sky-high cost of housing in the capital has forced many people to look for a place to live in other municipalities in the Madrid region. In one of them—with a population of just 219 and located in the Middle Lozoya Valley, in the Sierra Norte de Madrid—you can find homes that are much cheaper than what we’re used to seeing in the capital.
It’s called Horcajo de la Sierra-Aoslos, it’s just over an hour from Madrid, and after searching real estate websites like Fotocasa and Idealista, you can find listings such as one for a townhouse for sale with 135 square meters and four bedrooms for €30,000.
Although it needs renovation or remodeling, the cost of a home with these characteristics is still more affordable in this municipality, which is also nestled in a stunning natural setting among oak groves, ash groves, poplar groves, and orchards.
Direct bus service to Madrid
You can reach Horcajo de la Sierra-Aoslos by bus from Madrid: at the Plaza de Castilla transit hub, intercity bus lines 191, 191B, and 196 depart and run all the way to this town.
A bustling town
In addition to the interpretive trails and marked walking routes throughout the municipality available on the Horcajo de la Sierra-Aoslos City Council’s website, its Instagram profile frequently shares a wide range of monthly activities, such as film forums, workshops, and yoga classes.
