While the undergrounding of the Castellana is being carried out, another change will be added to the urban planning of the north of the city. The Madrid Norte Boulevard in Alcobendas represents one of the most ambitious projects in the north of the region, designed to transform the old Fuencarral road (M-603) into a green axis that will connect the municipality directly with Madrid Nuevo Norte, the future financial district of the capital.
The Alcobendas City Council has projected an investment of close to 11.1 million euros, with the works scheduled to begin in 2026 and be completed in less than a year, allowing residents to enjoy a new form of connection before 2027.
The boulevard will have a constant section of 30 meters wide and will cover more than 60,000 square meters, with a large landscaped central promenade flanked by two traffic lanes, sidewalks, a bicycle lane of more than one kilometer and pedestrian walkways. The works will affect the section between the traffic circle at Avenida de Valdelaparra and Avenida de la Industria to Calle Francisco Gervás.

According to the Alcobendas City Hall, the design prioritizes sustainability and citizen welfare: it will have 21,300 square meters of green areas, 960 square meters of children’s area, state-of-the-art urban furniture, efficient lighting and an underground tank for the collection and reuse of rainwater, which will allow for the ecological irrigation of the new gardens.
The greenways will connect the Río Norte business park, the Carrefour center, the Severo Ochoa and Virgen de la Paz high schools and the Cuestablanca housing development, enabling residents to get around on foot or by bicycle in just a few minutes. In the words of Jesús Montero, councilman of Urban Planning, Environment and Works: “a weak point of the city will be turned into a strong one”.
