As Halloween 2025 approaches, in Madrid we alternate pumpkin spice lattes with buñuelos and huesitos de santo -without fear of blood sugar spikes.
By the time October arrives, we Madrileños are already overdressed because either four drops have fallen or it seems that summer has returned (no in-between) and plans begin to take on the tone of the spooky season, anglicized as we have adopted this Anglo-Saxon tradition, with many Mexican touches and some local twists.
The Altar of the Dead at Casa de México

As every year the Casa de México Foundation in Madrid presents its Altar of the Dead, one of the highlights of Halloween in Madrid. This time it is designed by Guillermo Gonzalez, who has focused on sophistication in the composition of colors, textures and shapes, creating a magical and elegant atmosphere that captures the essence of Mexican cabaret and invites to live the experience through music, dance and respect for the memory.
Until November 9, this space is transformed into an explosion of color, art and tradition with the exhibition Cabaret El Recuerdo, inspired by the Mexican cabaret of the 20th century. Designed by set designer Guillermo González, the altar combines catrinas, marigold flowers, ambient music and lights that evoke the theatrical world. Admission is free, with the option of guided tours to learn the meaning of each symbol and handcrafted piece.

The event starts at 22:30 and lasts until 05:00, with tickets from 45 € including drinks. Costumes are a must: catrinas, witches and skulls take Madrid to celebrate the craziest night of the year.

Tour of the San Isidro Cemetery
Make a round Halloween plan and get to know Madrid better can be achieved with a tour of one of the historic cemeteries that are around the city. The Sacramental de San Isidro is located behind where one of the miracles of San Isidro took place and where the fountain is now. In addition, the Cemetery of San Isidro is one of the places in Madrid where a greater number of relevant works of architects and sculptors are concentrated.
As if this were not enough, it is close to the missing Quinta del Sordo de Goya, where he painted his black paintings. A two in one of mystery and art. The routes are divided by the cardinal points and can be individual or in groups of at least 10 people with prior reservation (by phone or email), the entrance fee is 8 € and the schedule from Monday to Sunday from 9.00 to 15.00.
Location: paseo de la Ermita del Santo, 72 (San Isidro)
The dinosaurs of Jurassic World: The Experience, more spooky for Halloween
We don’t plan to make spoilers. Although those who have already been to the immersive experience of the Jurassic Park saga know it: here there are surprises, there are shocks, there is spectacularity thanks to the animatronic dinosaurs that are hidden in this peculiar jungle in the center of Madrid. For Halloween, in addition, the experience proposes a game: they encourage the youngest of the house (and the adults, why not!) to go in costume to the experience, where there will be a dynamic game of trick or treat. This Halloween, the dinosaurs will roar more than ever: beware of what lurks in the shadows!
📍 Location: Paseo de las Delicias, 61 (Espacio Delicias, Arganzuela) Tickets: from 22€.
Escape room: The Balaguer Curse
La Maldición de los Balaguer is an escape room of terror in Madrid that challenges even the bravest, set in a house where a mysterious tragedy occurred and it is rumored that there is a portal to the world of the dead. With live actors and physical contact, the experience lasts 60 minutes and immerses participants in a disturbing challenge full of suspense and strong emotions, ideal for those over 16 years old at Ncerrados Escape Room Madrid. Candlelight
Entering a historic building in Madrid, well after dark, can be quite a terrifying experience. However, if you add to this the fact that the space is full of candles, smoke and pumpkins and that a string quartet plays Halloween classics in unison, the hair will stand on end. Candlelight presents its Halloween program this October and does so in such impressive venues as the Círculo de Bellas Artes or the Ateneo de Madrid. A musical and immersive show with which to enjoy live with such creepy themes as Thriller by Michael Jackson, the soundtrack of The Rocky Horror Picture Show or the theme songs of Ghostbusters, The Addams Family or Stranger Things. The definitive (musical) plan for this Halloween.
The House of Horrors

La Casa de los Horrores, the rural house known because here you can be scared 365 days a year, is the perfect place for horror addicts who want to live a group experience (followed by a party) this Halloween 2025. Among its scariest experiences are the following:

Madrid Ghost Tour

The Madrid ghost tour is a way to discover the most mysterious side of the city and some of the legends that linger in some of the capital’s emblematic buildings. To take this route you have to put yourself in the shoes of Diego de Velázquez on the day of reckoning.
The mission will be to solve the mysteries and follow the clues to prevent his soul from going to purgatory. Meanwhile, you walk through the streets of Madrid, and learn the terrifying true stories behind places you never noticed before.

Chamberí Ghost Station

The abandoned Chamberí station has been anchored to the past for more than six decades. Its decoration has been preserved, with advertising posters or signs of the time, as has its structure, topped by a vault and covered with the classic white beveled tile. It was restored and since 2008 is part of the Metro’s Platform Zero, which is the name chosen to name the network of suburban museums.
And although in itself the visit is a somewhat disturbing plan, it is almost a classic Halloween in Madrid that is transformed into a kind of passage of terror on these dates. This year the dates have not yet been confirmed but in previous years the platform of the dead could be visited on 25, 26, 27, 31 October, 1 and 2 November. Tickets usually sell out quickly.

Mexican Pan de Muerto
Pan de Muerto is, without a doubt, one of the great protagonists of the Mexican Day of the Dead. The origin of this sweet, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Its characteristic appearance, with the small ball that crowns it and the four crossed “bones”, represents a skull.
The original recipe is prepared with amaranth dough and honey. However, over time, Pan de Muerto has evolved into a softer version, with wheat flour, sugar, butter and orange blossom essence, which is the one we know today. Although this version is the most popular, many variations of the sweet can be found in the different regions of Mexico.
This Halloween 2025 you can buy Pan de Muerto in many bakeries in Madrid, such as Mallorca, PanMex or La Mallorquina, but also in online stores, such as PlacerEsMex.
