Japanese animation has millions of fans in Spain. Films like Spirited Away -a profound feature film by Studio Ghibli- and manga adaptations like Jujutsu Kaisen (2018) or Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019) have consolidated anime as a massive cultural phenomenon.
In May, mk2 cinemas in Seville and Madrid will pay tribute to one of the most fascinating and influential names in Japanese animation: Satoshi Kon. In addition, the birth of animek2 will be celebrated throughout the month: a new label that offers a continuous program of anime films in selected cinemas. Tickets per session are around €6.50.
During the weekends in May, Cine Paz and Cine del Palacio del Hielo will be showing a carefully selected selection of Japanese works. Each anime session will be complemented with special presentations, merchandising raffles and a journey through different aspects of the genre.
From May 4 to May 25, both days inclusive, a Satoshi Kon film will be screened every Sunday. Saturdays will be dedicated to One Piece, with special presentations guided by Juan Pérez and José Arce, from Impact Store. Fridays will be premiere days with the screening of Kaiju No. 8: Reconnaissance Mission (May 9) and Anzu, Ghost Cat (May 16). In addition, a classic Korean film will be included in the program: Robot Taekwon V (1976).
