The Community of Madrid has published a report specifying the steps to follow to receive the Housing Rental Aid 2024, an initiative that facilitates access to a decent roof over the heads of young people under 35 years of age, senior citizens and adults with scarce economic means due to unemployment or family burdens. The deadline to apply for this assistance is Sunday, December 15.
This assistance covers 50% of the total rent to be paid by the beneficiary. The rent, in the case that it is applied to an entire dwelling, must have a maximum value of 600€ per month. Rooms in shared apartments have other conditions: they must cost -at most- 300€ per month. The requirements change for large families and inhabitants of Madrid capital, who can receive the aid by renting apartments of €900 or rooms of €450 per month.
General requirements to apply
Before applying for the Ayuda al Alquiler de Vivivenda it is essential to check that the requirements established by the Community of Madrid are met:
General conditions
- To be of legal age.
- To have Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain.
- To be the holder of a lease contract in accordance with the Urban Lease Law.
- To use the rented property as a habitual and permanent residence.
- Not to be related to the lessor.
- Not to be a partner or participant of the owner of the property.
Economic conditions
With the exception of specific cases (large families or members with a disability of more than 33%), applicants must have an income less than or equal to the amount of the Public Index of Multiple Effect Income (IPREM) multiplied by three. However, the minimum income must be 0.75 times the IPREM. For those under 35 years of age, it can be equal to or greater than zero.
How to apply for the Housing Benefit 2024?
Whatever the case of the potential beneficiary, he must fill in the application form provided by the Community of Madrid through its website. Then, he has to submit the following documentation:
- Copy of the rental contract or of the assignment of use.
- Certificate of collective registration (indicating all the tenants) and historical registration (indicating the date of registration in the dwelling) of all the contracts in force since January 1, 2024.
- Copy of the long-term or temporary residence permit (for non-EU foreigners).
Specific cases
Beneficiaries of the minimum insertion income or Social Security benefits have to submit a certificate showing how much money they received in 2023 through these aids. Those included in the Special System for Household Employees must send the certificate of contribution bases for the last fiscal year with a filing deadline (2023). On the other hand,large families and people with disabilities will have to submit the corresponding supporting documentation.
