It would seem that the quality of metropolis that dresses the region of Madrid makes impossible any other function than the tertiary sector. Nothing could be closer to fiction. Madrid’s surroundings enjoy a reputation for wine -with awards such as x-, cheese -such- or oil.
The reputable guide Evooleum has published the best extra virgin olive oils in the world and Madrid (specifically an oil from Villaconejos) has come out well. Eleven countries have participated and the first two positions go to Ciudad Real with the oil Dehesa el Molinillo Coratina with 97 points. And in Cordoba with the oil Rincón de La Subbética with 96 points. The third position goes to an Italian brand.
The fourth is the one that goes to Madrid. Just outside the podium is the Madrid oil produced in olive groves on the banks of the Tagus with Hojiblanca and Picual varieties. It has obtained a rating of 95 points.
The price of the fourth best oil in the world
The oil is called LOA 77 and this is not the first time it has obtained international recognition. It has won other awards such as the Gold Medal or the award for Best Oil in Spain at the 2023 Olive Oil Award in Zurich.
The price of the 500cl bottle, which can be purchased at El Corte Inglés, is 35.8€. And the bottle itself, as Gorka Elorrieta says in TimeOut, looks more like a perfume than an oil.
There are no other oils from Madrid in the top ten of the list, but most of the oils in the top 100 are made in Spain. Up to 59 Spanish oils make up the top, reaffirming Spain’s position as the country that produces the best olive oil.
