In a few months, the unmistakable blue BiciMAD bicycles will be seen outside the city of Madrid. This public electric transport service will arrive in Pozuelo de Alarcón next spring, specifically “in March or April”.
This has been confirmed by the delegate of Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, during the press conference after the Governing Board. This will require the approval of Madrid’s new Sustainable Mobility ordinance, which will allow BiciMAD to be extended to other neighboring municipalities.
Pozuelo and sustainability

Pozuelo City Council has already announced its budget for 2026, which, in the words of its mayor, Paloma Tejero, “reflects its commitment to responsible and sustainable management.” For the moment, it only has the “yes” of the PP and the rejection of all opposition parties (PSOE, Vox, Somos Pozuelo and the non-attached councilor).
The final approval will come in January, and it will include the implementation of the BiciMAD system and the expansion of the bike lane in the city. With this measure, they intend to promote healthy travel and reduce polluting emissions.
Borja Carabante, on behalf of the consistory of Madrid, clarified in a press conference that “this extension does not cost the residents of Madrid any money” and that the municipalities that want to join the system will be welcome.
The success of biciMAD

Currently, biciMAD has 7735 bikes and 630 stations spread across the city’s 21 districts, making it a practical and simple option for more environmentally friendly commuting.
From the mobile application, you can check the available bikes and whether the stations have a low occupancy (green color), medium (blue) or high (red), as well as if it is not operational for any reason (gray color).
According to a survey conducted by the EMT with 1200 face-to-face interviews, 98% of users recommend its use and rate the mobile application with an average score of 7.7 out of 10. On September 8, 2025, the electric bicycle service reached its record, with the use of 66,000 people during the day, as reported by the Madrid City Council.
Now, Pozuelo de Alarcón is preparing to become the first municipality outside the capital to incorporate the biciMAD system in 2026. The locations are already agreed and only the last approvals by the City Council are missing.
