As of July 1, 2025, traveling by intercity bus in the Community of Madrid will be a little more expensive. The Regional Transport Consortium, as reported by the newspaper El Economista, has approved an increase that raises the price of a single ticket to 3 euros for journeys between Madrid and the municipalities of its metropolitan area, as well as between towns in the suburbs. Until now, the same trip cost between 2 and 2.60 euros, depending on the fare crowns.
The new price represents an increase of up to 50% over what many users used to pay, especially for journeys within the A, B1 and B2 zones, where most of the daily traffic is concentrated. In the urban services of these municipalities, the fare is fixed at 1.5 euros.
Fares for groups with discounts are also updated: people with disabilities and large families of general category will pay 2.40 euros, while large families of special category (more than five members) will continue to pay 1.50 euros.
The regional government justifies the increase in the need to adapt the fare system to state regulations and to be able to access the funds provided for in Royal Decree Law 1/2025, which makes aid conditional on the fulfillment of certain financial requirements by the autonomous communities.
The transport season ticket also goes up: the new prices are as follows
June 2025 will be the last month with the 60% discount on the transport pass. From July, the discount will drop to 40%. The rebate, in force since September 2022, has allowed thousands of Madrid residents to travel for reduced prices for almost three years in a context marked by inflation.
With the new discount, the price of the monthly pass is as follows:
-
Zone A: 32.80 euros (previously 21.80 euros).
-
Zone B1: 38.20 euros (previously 25.40 euros)
-
Zone B2: 43.20 euros (previously 28.80 euros)
-
Zone B3, C1, C2: 49,20 euros (previously 32,80 euros)
-
Zone E1: 66,30 euros (previously 44,20 €)
-
Zone E2: 79,00 euros (before 52,70 €)
-
Youth Pass (15-26 years old): 10,00 euros (before 8,00 euros)
-
10-trip card (zone A): 7,30 euros (before 6,10 euros)
Passes for children under 15 years old (financed by the State) and over 65 years old (financed by the Community of Madrid) are still free of charge.
Card payment arrives to intercity buses
Since December 2024, it is already possible to pay by bank card on intercity buses in four municipalities: San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Torrejón de Ardoz, Pozuelo de Alarcón and Arganda del Rey. A novelty long awaited by users, who can pay their single ticket with a physical or mobile card thanks to contactless technology.
This advance is part of the public transport digitalization process promoted by the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures. The system is expected to be extended to Móstoles, Rivas Vaciamadrid, Torrelodones, Valdemoro, Tres Cantos, San Sebastián de los Reyes and Alcobendas in the coming months. The roadmap aims that all intercity buses in the Community have this payment system before July 2025.
