The Junta Municipal de Usera (avenida de Rafaela Ybarra, 41) hosts Rojo: a collection of 23 Chinese ink paintings by the master Yue Yu. It is completely free and can be visited from Monday to Friday until February 28.
Ink painting is one of the most characteristic techniques of traditional Chinese art. It consists of using ink as the main pigment, and water to dilute it on rice paper. The elegant forms resulting from this way of painting were used by artists of ancient dynasties to represent the essence of things. That is, not to show reality realistically, but to provide a different perspective of the environment.
Red symbolizes good luck and happiness in Chinese culture. It is present at weddings, birthdays and, of course, at the long-awaited Spring Festival. The name of the exhibition is a preview of the joyful paintings we are going to find in Yue Yu’s work, as well as a tribute to the color of abundance.
The exhibition has a fairly accessible schedule: it admits visitors in the morning (from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm) and in the afternoon (from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm). It can be reached by public transport: by metro lines 6 and 11 (stop at Plaza Elíptica station) or by bus, with lines 60, 78 and 81.
More Chinese New Year activities
Madrid is full of plans to delve into oriental culture for the Chinese New Year. Until the end of February, there will be from workshops to learn typical disciplines of the Asian country to a Chinese food festival involving 19 restaurants in the capital.
