Finding Christmas decorations in Madrid is easy if you are looking for the classic red or gold tree balls, but when you want something more special like crystal balls, wreaths, candles or to add a touch of fantasy to your home you have to look a little further. Paying a visit to one of these stores and leaving without something Christmassy is difficult when you’re a holiday enthusiast.
1. Christmas markets
The first stop, and most obvious, is the Madrid markets, especially the one in the Plaza Mayor, if you need to expand your Bethlehem. It doesn’t matter what size you look for the figurines, of course, to keep the homogeneity you have to remember it from one year to another. There are also Christmas decorations for the tree and the house, among which are the lights, -there are stalls exclusively dedicated to the luminous garlands. In addition, it is one of the few places in the center where there are natural fir trees (although they are usually sold out) and they also sell bunches of mistletoe.
📍Location: Several locations.
2. WOW
Wow is not only a fashion and beauty concept store, it also has decoration on its top floor. Since the last weeks of November, this space has become a Christmas corner very similar to what we could find in the Liberty department store in London. In addition to the more traditional decorations, they have a good selection of fantasy “balls” with random shapes, ranging from a cowboy boot to a classic handbag. They also have everything you need to prepare a table worthy of a special dinner, and small designer items , perfect for a gift.
📍Location:Gran Vía street, 18 (downtown)
3. Xmas Shop by Sally Hambelton
Sally Hambleton has one of the most interesting flower shops in Madrid and at this time of the year she prepares her well-known Xmas Shop. Here you can find all kinds of decorations for the Christmas tree, table decorations (tablecloths, napkins, glasses, candlesticks, candle holders and candles, among others) and, of course, the natural Christmas wreaths that they prepare themselves. This very own space can also prepare dinners and private workshops of flowers or wreaths, from 19.30h and prior contact.
📍Location:Gabriel Lobo Street, 10 (El Viso)
4. Antique dealers
When you already have your Christmas decoration defined (and bought for years), the search sharpens to more special objects that go a little beyond the colored balls and for that antique dealers have for these dates a small and careful selection. Spaces like La Californie or the New Galleries of the flea market gather some of the most special pieces that you can find to decorate at this time, even if they are not specifically Christmas objects.
📍Location:various locations
5. Goya’s Christmas cabin
Christmas is the time for whimsy and this store is pure enjoyment if your soft skills include being Santa’s elf. The cabin-shaped Christmas store that El Corte Inglés has set up in Goya is reminiscent of Mr. Magorium and his magic store (2007), but without Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman attending. Here you can leave with the complete pack of decorations for these dates: classic and surreal balls, trees of all sizes, wreaths and dried flowers and colorful garlands.
📍Location: Avenida de Felipe II, s / n (Salamanca)
6. Margarita is called my love
Margarita se llama mi amor is a flower shop located on Fernando VI street, one of the liveliest streets in the area. At Christmas time they prepare wreaths of natural flowers (some very easy to dry and maintain), they make red and green floral arrangements, very Christmassy and they also have the classic poinsettia. Including fresh or preserved flowers is a way to elevate the traditional decoration of these days or give a discreet festive touch if you are not into tinsel and garlands.
📍Location: Calle de Fernando VI, 9 (Chueca)
7. El Corte Inglés in Pozuelo
The Christmas headquarters of El Corte Inglés in Madrid until a few years ago used to be the top floor of Goya, but in recent Christmas its Pozuelo center has been gaining ground, although we must also make a special mention to the Sanchinarro.
As with the Zara Home in Plaza de España, here you can find every Christmas detail you can think of, divided by color, from trees of all sizes to miniature merry-go-rounds. This is probably one of the most complete Christmas spaces if you want to have many options without looking too hard.
📍Location: ctra. de La Coruña, km 12 (Pozuelo)
8. La Oficial
La Oficial is a store that sells ceramics by weight, but at Christmas time they also add decoration for the table, and practical examples of how to prepare a festive table and blown glass balls that are perfect to give a special touch to the tree. Dried flowers, tablecloths, rockroses, glasses and cutlery are also protagonists next to their classic Portuguese ceramic plates.
📍Location:Calle de Sta. Ana, 6 (La Latina)
9. Living in London
Anglo-Saxon countries compensate for their lack of rich gastronomy with a special taste for Christmas decorations. The English in particular can give lessons in this aspect. Luckily there is a store in Madrid that sells tartan Christmas balls, tweed embroidered cushions, cups and teas with William Morris prints and almost any other British delirium typical of these dates. It’s almost like stepping into a little Liberty London with a touch of Fortnum and Mason.
📍Location: Calle de Gabriel Lobo, 7 (Chamartín)
