The headline of this article could be misleading. If we change Ciudad Lineal for any neighborhood in Alicante, the fact would not be newsworthy. After all, it is San Juan and as such, the usual celebration includes bonfires, concerts and popular paellas.
Perception changes when Ciudad Lineal enters the equation. The district of Madrid celebrates the festivities of San Juan with a large number of family activities and literally for all audiences that are concentrated between June 21 and 23.
The activities, on the other hand, will take place on two stages. One will be the fairgrounds on Human Rights Street, which will host events such as soccer matches, the concert of the rock group Kalandrakas or the bonfire of San Juan itself, which will put an end to the festive program and will take place on the esplanade of the fairgrounds.
The other major pole of action is the park El Flori where there will be parades, concerts such as Icover, Iguana Rock or Bald Bunny, orchestras, bonfires and a popular paella that will take place on Saturday between 13 h and 15 h.
You can consult the Program of activities for both locations in this link.
The festivities of San Juan in El Retiro
El Retiro also has its Program of activities for the celebration of San Juan. The celebrations, which will include a variety of events such as concerts, batucadas, zarzuela and bouncy castles, will take place on June 21, 22 and 23. The inauguration of the festivities will be attended by journalist and writer Javier Sierra, who will give the opening speech on Friday at 8:00 pm on the stage located on Narváez Street.
On Friday 21, the activities will begin with bouncy castles and batucadas, culminating with a concert by La Guardia and a Spanish dance show. Saturday 22 will include ornithological workshops, a popular race, children’s workshops, magic for children, yoga, and a festival of emerging bands. Sunday 23 will conclude with an ornithological workshop and a mass in Honor of St. John.
