Yesterday, after several hours of general power outage in the peninsula, at 14.30 h the tunnels of the M-30 were cut to traffic, causing a blockage of traffic that meant that journeys that usually take 30 minutes, yesterday took from 4 to 9 hours.
This morning the capital already dawned with the news of the staggered reopening of the tunnels of Madrid Calle 30 -official name of the M-30-. The last section to be incorporated was Avenida de Portugal. Even so, traffic has been intense, partly because Cercanías has not recovered its usual performance.
Why were the M-30 tunnels closed?
The main thing in these situations in which, as yesterday the Municipal Emergency Plan is activated, is public safety, and with the power cut it was not possible to ensure that the security systems of the M-30 tunnels would work. Therefore, and knowing the traffic chaos that this would entail, it was decided to close the circulation in these sections. In addition to this, the traffic lights were not working either and the mobility agents had to act quickly to relieve the situation.
