Christmas is always accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures in the capital. This weekend, just nine days before the official start of winter, we will find thermometers below 0ºC from north to south of the municipality. This is what the Cold Wave Information Bulletin published by the Community of Madrid on Thursday, December 12 shows.
Based on the latest data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the Community has declared risk level 1 for cold wave. Therefore, it recommends the population (especially the elderly) to take certain precautions, such as putting on several layers of clothing, consulting the weather before going out, keeping the windows tightly closed inside the house and, of course, having a heat source in the rooms.
These measures prevent illnesses caused by the cold, which can severely affect people with chronic respiratory diseases, infants, and the homeless or economically deprived.
