The Community of Madrid has just announced that the public transport pass will be available in digital format for all users from November, making one of the most awaited demands by metropolitan travelers a reality. After the success of the initial pilot with 4,000 participants, the Regional Transport Consortium has doubled the number of volunteers in the final testing phase and is preparing to make it official by the end of the year.
The new tool, available on the MiTarjetaTransporte mobile app, allows you to digitize your Personal Public Transport Card (except for the Children’s, Blue and Annual Cards) and use it via NFC technology on your Android phone, recharging tickets and validating accesses directly at the turnstiles, just like with the physical support.
For security reasons, you can only have one card active (digital or physical), so that after scanning your pass will work exclusively on your smartphone and dual use will not be allowed. All this operation will be possible on Android 9.0 or higher devices, with Google Wallet installed, and will be accompanied by an anti-fraud control and secure validation of the APP in the usual equipment of the Madrid transport.
How to have the Madrid Personal Public Transport Card on your cell phone.

The process is simple: just download the app, complete the registration form from the official website of the CRTM and follow the instructions received by email to activate the service. The duration of this last test phase will be a few weeks and, after its conclusion in November, you will be able to continue using the digital fare card, which promises to speed up procedures, reduce losses and simplify the user experience in Metro, Cercanías, buses and Parla Tram.
The virtualization of the fare option is in addition to other CRTM advances, such as recharging the card from the cell phone (launched in 2021) and the purchase of tourist and multi-trip tickets online. For iPhone users, the system will also be available soon, integrated with Apple Wallet, although there is still no official date for this deployment.
