Going down to the metro, passing the pass, making a transfer and leaving at your destination station. Although we do not stop to think about it on a daily basis, each of these everyday actions – getting on, getting off, changing lines – is recorded: together they make up what Metro de Madrid calls “utilizations “* and last year Sol station was the station that recorded the most of the entire network with more than 73 million.
It was followed by Avenida de América and Príncipe Pío stations (with more than 53 million) and Nuevos Ministerios, with almost 52 million. All of them, moreover, have increased their use with respect to 2023 by between 7% and 11%.
However, focusing on the metro lines, line 6 remains the most used of the network. A high demand which, by the way, is proving difficult to absorb by means of the substitute services that have been put in place while the works on one of its sections last.
Metro de Madrid’s historic record in 2024

Last year Metro de Madrid beat its all-time travel record with more than 715 million journeys, thus surpassing the highest figure ever recorded by the underground system: to find it, one has to go back to 2007, when a demand of 688 million journeys was recorded.
To complete the picture: compared to the previous year, December was the month with the highest demand evolution on working days (from Tuesday to Thursday), with an average of 2,546 thousand trips.
