It usually takes 15 hours by plane to get to India from Madrid, but for a few days that distance is cut to two and a quarter hours by road (or one hour by AVE) thanks to JLF Valladolid Spain 2026. One of the world’s most important literary festivals, which, from June 11 to 14, comes to the capital of Valladolid as part of the Spain-India Dual Year. And it does so with a wide-ranging cultural program that includes everything from literary talks with prominent national and international figures to a jazz session, haute cuisine, and a candlelit concert.
Literature, music, and haute cuisine: what to expect from JLF 2026
To celebrate the ties between India and Spain through dialogue and literature, the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) has chosen Valladolid as the host city for its fourth edition. And although the opening ceremony will take place on Thursday in Madrid (IE University), starting that same day, iconic Valladolid landmarks such as the Casa de la India, Campo Grande, and the Casa Cervantes Museum will host all kinds of events running through Sunday that will blend literature with other disciplines.
On the musical front, this fusion will reach its peak with a candlelight concert at the Palacio de Santa Cruz, where a tribute will be paid to Indian ragas by Soumik Datta (on the sarod) and Apurba Mukherjee (on the tabla). The gastronomic finale will be provided by Michelin-starred chef Marc Segarra with a closing event at the Retuerta Abbey, where diners will enjoy national delicacies.
A Nobel Peace Prize laureate as the star of this edition
Literature is the main focus of these events. But so are poetry, history, and art in general. These disciplines serve as a cultural bridge between India and Spain and will take shape in conversations with experts and prominent global figures. Among them, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi is one of the most anticipated guests this year; he will lead two talks: one on justice and compassion, and another on human dignity today.
Joining them will be other major national and international voices who will exchange ideas during these days. Notable among them are historians William Dalrymple and Alberto Garín, authors Jorge Volpi, Yolanda Castaño, and Jeet Thayil, and renowned filmmaker Fernando Colomo, who will speak about the relationship between cinema and literature.
