The cachopo is a dish of uncertain origin that triumphs for its huge size and simplicity. Some attribute its invention to Olvido Álvarez, the cook of the old bar Pelayo (Oviedo). According to La Voz de Asturias, she was inspired by the recipe for cordon bleuto make it.
Since its incorporation in the menu of this Oviedo restaurant in the middle of the 20th century, the double veal fillet stuffed with ham and cheese has not gone out of fashion. Quite the contrary: it has become a characteristic dish of the province that popularized it, and the star of many Asturian restaurants in the capital.
.
La Pomarada (Conde Duque, 3) is one of those places that boast of offering cachopos in Madrid, and with unheard-of sizes. As they are designed to share, they are more than one meter long (111 centimeters). Unlike in other restaurants, here you can choose the filling of the double steak: you are given the option of combining bacon, lacón or cecina with tetilla or cabrales cheese. And if choosing becomes difficult, don’t worry: you can order several combinations in the same cachopo dish.
Of course, they have the classic ham and cheese on the menu in XXL version. They have also created one with toppings to the consumer’s taste: the diner can add corn, truffle, Asturian beans and more ingredients on top of the cachopo breading.
In addition, La Pomarada has a free buffet service from Monday to Friday, and for a price with which it is difficult to compete: 15€ per person, including dessert. Of course: drinks are paid separately, so you should expect the final cost to be around €20.
Both their famous cachopos (standard version) and their croquetones and huevos rotos are included in the offer. The buffet can only be enjoyed during lunchtime: from 13:00 to 16:00 hours.
