As already happened with the dentist -covered by Social Security two years ago for children under 14 years of age- now the purchase of free prescription glasses for children under 14 will also be supported, although in this case it is the Community of Madrid (CAM) who will be responsible for the amount.
According to CAM’s calculations, this aid will benefit 135,000 children (3% of those under six years of age and 25% of those between 7 and 14 years of age) between 2024 and 2025. However, assistance is limited: 55 will be the maximum price that will be covered, it can only be requested once a year and at least six months must pass between one request and another.
This measure comes a few months ahead of the one that already announced the Minister of Health mónica García, last May and will be launched in 2025. Although there are not many more details, it was announced as a measure designed for vulnerable families, as is already the case in many other La Unión countries.

This agreement between the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) and the National College of Opticians-Optometrists translates into a public investment of almost 7.5 million euros. This will cover the purchase of lenses to “compensate for refractive defects such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and combinations of some of them”.
To obtain the aid it will be enough to go to the optical establishments that adhere to the document of the Community of Madrid -which has not yet been published- and undergo a previous assessment. There is no family income requirement, or any other requirement, except the essential one: meeting the age range.
