There are experiences that happen only once in a lifetime, and the total solar eclipse this Wednesday, August 12, is one of them. We are witnessing an astronomical phenomenon that hasn’t been seen on the Iberian Peninsula for a century. And to celebrate it as it deserves, just over an hour from Madrid, a magical event will take place: the “Music for an Eclipse Concert,” on the cobblestone courtyard of Segovia Cathedral.

Watch the eclipse at the foot of the cathedral
The doors to the cathedral’s paved courtyard will open at 7:00 p.m. so that attendees can watch the eclipse from this very special setting, just before the concert begins.
Specifically, the eclipse will begin at 7:35 p.m., while the total phase will occur between approximately 8:31 p.m. and 8:32 p.m.: 59 amazing seconds during which Segovia will be plunged into darkness.
Attendees should also be aware that the concert will begin only when the sun sets behind the buildings, and that the end of the eclipse will not be visible from this location due to geographical factors.
An exclusive concert
According to Segovia Tourism, the “Music for an Eclipse Concert” includes an equally special second half dedicated to *El amor brujo* by Manuel de Falla (the famous composer from Cádiz, marking the 150th anniversary of his birth). The performance will feature the voice of Rocío Gálvez and a staging by Nueva Danza, directed by Esther Valdenebro.
