This Tuesday, June 2, the renovated lobby of the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station opened, bringing several improvements for passengers. First, in terms of space: following the renovation, it has expanded from approximately 4,000 m² to roughly 18,000 m².
The passenger building reclaims the plaza as its main entrance, covered by a glass dome designed to protect passengers from inclement weather. Once inside, the space is organized into three zones: the high-speed rail area, the commuter rail area, and the common lobby with a large corridor featuring boarding and waiting areas on one side and retail spaces
For the convenience of all passengers, the new lobby features seating, ticket vending machines, restrooms, charging stations for electronic devices, passenger information and ticket sales offices, as well as retail and dining establishments.
The passenger information system for train arrivals and departures has been improved with variable message signs and 65-inch LED screens featuring a new graphical interface. Additionally, for the first time, the main building will feature a turnstile-based access control system for commuter rail services.
Other improvements at the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station

One of the major milestones of the renovation has been an unprecedented expansion of its high-speed capacity, as the station has doubled its capacity in this area: it has gone from 6 tracks with no continuity to the south to 12 with departures in both directions.
Beneath the high-speed tracks, Adif AV has built an underpass to facilitate and make passengers’ exit more convenient: they can leave the station through either side and access taxis, commuter trains, the Metro, ride-hailing services, car rentals, and the P2 parking lot.
The expansion works at the Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station, in which 560 million euros have been invested, are funded by the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
