Madrid takes another step towards the digitization of its public transport network and solves what has taken a few years to become a historic demand. Starting this January, more than three million public transport pass users will be able to validate their journeys directly from their mobile phones thanks to the new Mi Tarjeta Transporte app, promoted by the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM).
The official presentation took place at Cuatro Caminos station, where councilors Miguel López-Valverde (Digitalization) and Jorge Rodrigo (Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure) demonstrated how the app works by using their own cell phones to pass through the Metro turnstiles.

The app, available for Android 9.0 or higher devices, allows users to digitize their monthly pass directly on their cell phone using Google Wallet. The process is simple: just hold the physical card up to the phone’s NFC reader, follow the instructions, and transfer the content to the digital format.
Once this is done, the physical card is blocked, and the user can validate their journey by simply holding their phone close to the readers on the Metro, city and intercity buses, light rail, and Cercanías trains.
This feature is in addition to the one already in operation for multi-trip tickets, and it is expected that by the end of January, children’s cards and blue cards will also be able to be digitized. In addition, the CRTM is working to incorporate annual company passes and to make iOS devices compatible throughout 2026.
