Of the many realities and problems that a Madrileño can go through, there is one that seems to permeate everything: money, specifically, the salary that must be earned in order to live well in Madrid. This is the question that Madrid Secreto has gone out to ask in the streets of the capital.
According to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute study on salary distribution, 37.3% of wage earners in the Community of Madrid earn 2,548 euros or more per month, which is above the national average (2,548 euros). But a higher salary is also followed by a higher cost of living, especially the cost of housing: rent is at an all-time high, according to Idealista, with an average price of 20.7 euros/m2. This affects the quality of life and savings capacity implicit in the “good” of the initial question.
How much do you have to earn to live well in Madrid?
Most of the interviewees answer precisely taking into account housing prices: “2,500 almost with a partner, because rents are very high” answers a woman summarizing the situation. The data also support it, specifically, in the monthly barometer of the CIS, housing is among the 3 main problems for Spaniards.
The highest figure is given by two men, who say that to live well in Madrid they need at least 3,000 € if they have to pay rent. The lowest figure is placed by a woman who believes that between 1,200 € and 1,300 € is fine, as long as you share an apartment, she clarifies.
