From Friday, March 6, Metro line 3 will suspend service between the Sol and Moncloa stations until Sunday, March 8. The reason for this temporary closure is to carry out maintenance and renovation work, according to the railway company.
Specifically, according to Metro de Madrid, the planned works “will allow for the maintenance and renovation of the track superstructure at the Plaza de España station and the tunnel between this station and Ventura Rodríguez.” These works, they point out, are essential to “ensure the reliability of the service, extend the useful life of the infrastructure, and improve the safety of railway operations.”
Due to the temporary suspension of this section of the line, during the days that the work lasts, staff will be reinforced at the affected stations to inform passengers. They also remind passengers that updated information on the service can be found on their official channels: both on the website and on the app and social media profiles.
The stations that will be affected by the works are Moncloa, Argüelles, Ventura Rodríguez, Plaza de España, Callao, and Sol.
Replacement services and alternatives during the partial suspension of line 3

At the same time, a special free bus service will be put in place between Moncloa and Callao, running on the same schedule as the metro service during the three days of works for all subway users.
In addition, all the stations affected—with the sole exception of Ventura Rodríguez—connect with other metro lines, so another option for travel on those days, according to Metro de Madrid, is to use a different route than usual within the metro network.
Finally, another option while service on line 3 is suspended on this part of its route is to use the following two bus lines operated by the Municipal Transport Company (EMT):
- Line 133, which covers the same section above ground from Moncloa to Callao.
- Circular Line, which partially runs between Moncloa and Plaza de España.
