A high-altitude rescue carried out by the Madrid Regional Fire Department concluded last Thursday with an anecdote that brought laughter to those present. A tabby cat, which had been trapped in the treetop since last Monday, was finally rescued thanks to the intervention of the firefighters, who used the truck’s articulating basket to reach the spot where the animal was and safely bring it down.
The unexpected bond after the rescue
Once the operation was complete and the cat was safe, the firefighter holding it proceeded to hand it over to a young woman waiting on the street below. It was at that moment that the animal, far from wanting to switch arms, dug its claws into the rescuer’s uniform and clung to his chest and shoulder, refusing completely to let go.
“It’s latched onto me—it won’t let go,” the firefighter remarked with a smile as the young woman tried, with great care and by pulling on its paws, to separate the cat from the protective uniform. Despite her efforts, the cat clung tightly once again to the harness straps and the fabric of the suit, seeking to maintain contact with the person who had brought it down from the tree after spending several days out in the open with no way to get down.
The moment created a lighthearted atmosphere at the scene. While the firefighter tried to win over the animal by jokingly telling it that he knew they had hit it off “really well,” his colleagues noted with laughter that the cat had shown a clear preference for Pablo, its rescuer.
