During the month of January, when temperatures drop, one of the best gastronomic options in the capital is the famous cocido madrileño. Among its ingredients are chickpeas and an event dedicated to them arrives.
This is the VII edition of the Chickpea Route, which is held in different municipalities of the Community of Madrid on weekends between January 9 and 25. A total of 70 restaurants will participate, offering their best dishes to customers.
Each establishment will present a weekend menu that will feature La Garbancera Madrileña chickpeas. In addition, they will be accompanied by wines from the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin. Participants will be able to vote for their favorites and participate in a La Garbancera raffle.
Chickpeas are reinvented in 26 municipalities.

Cocido madrileño will not be the only dish to be tasted, as many restaurants have decided to opt for other recipes, combining the product with spices, vegetables, meat or seafood. Thus, you can try stewed chickpeas with artichokes stuffed with oxtail, chickpeas with seafood or chickpeas with veal snout and fresh shrimp.
There will also be options such as chickpeas with curry, chickpea stews with mushrooms or chickpeas with Iberian pork cheeks and spinach, among many others. And, for the sweet touch, there will be innovative options such as a chickpea flan.

Another of the great attractions of this seventh edition are the prizes that can be won by those who try the dishes on the Route. They include the winner’s weight in chickpeas, lots of wines from prestigious wineries, free dinners and even stays for two in some hotels.
There are 21 different prizes for those who come to the Ruta del Garbanzo and opting for them is very simple. All you have to do is sign up on a mobile application and write down the chickpea dish and the wine you have consumed, so that you are entered directly into the draw. The results will be announced on January 30, after three weekends of gastronomic dedication to chickpeas.
