As announced by Metro de Madrid, Line 10 will resume service between Plaza de Castilla and Cuzco starting this Tuesday, August 25. Service is resuming after nearly two months of closure due to improvement work and asbestos removal at the Cuzco station.
The reopening is a relief for commuters on this section of the Castellana line, but it does not yet restore full normal service to the line. Trains will run from Hospital Infanta Sofía to Cuzco and from Nuevos Ministerios to Puerta del Sur, so to travel through the affected section, it will still be necessary to use alternative modes of transportation.
Consequently, Santiago Bernabéu will remain without service on Line 10, as will the direct connection from Cuzco to Nuevos Ministerios.
Why the closure on Line 10 continues
The disruption is due to the comprehensive renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu station, a project that began in 2024 and aims to create a larger and more accessible station next to Real Madrid’s stadium.
The construction project includes the demolition of the old station and the construction of new transit areas. The future concourse will provide access to the platforms via 24 escalators and 12 elevators, as part of a project that will move approximately 110,000 cubic meters of earth beneath the Paseo de la Castellana.
According to the current schedule, construction will keep the section between Cuzco and Nuevos Ministerios closed until the end of December 2026.
