Madrid has its own urban beach and, although it has cement instead of sand, it is one of the few refreshing plans that can be done in summer in the capital. It is the beach of Madrid Rio, an aquatic space of 6,500 square meters in the middle of Arganzuela park, which has just reopened its facilities for the summer season and has established itself as the favorite oasis to beat the heat without leaving the city.
The Madrid Río beach has three oval aquatic enclosures, designed to offer different water experiences: a surface area where you can lie down and soak, an area with 72 water jets of different heights and changing effects, and another with 315 sprays capable of creating refreshing clouds. The environment is completed with more than 300 trees that provide natural shade, lawns and rest areas, making the place a perfect plan for families and groups of friends.
How the Madrid Río beach works
The water is treated and chlorinated to ensure safety, and a water treatment plant recirculates the water to avoid waste. In addition, it is the only urban fountain in Madrid where bathing is allowed, as all other public fountains expressly prohibit it.
The Madrid Río urban beach will be open every day from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, from June to September, although the closing date may vary depending on weather conditions. Access is free and does not require prior reservation, which makes it an accessible and fun alternative to municipal swimming pools or long trips to the coast.
