The Book Fair is one of the most important cultural events in the capital. What began as a group of colorful booths in the Paseo de Recoletos back in the thirties ended up becoming the largest fair of its kind in Spain. Since 1967 it has been held in the Retiro and serves as a meeting point for great readers, publishers and writers.
This year it is being held from May 30 to June 15, bringing together more than a thousand authors of different nationalities who sign their books and meet their readers for the event. Among those confirmed are Blue Jeans, María Esclapez, Javier Castillo and Pedro Simón. Below is a breakdown of the booths and schedules.
In addition, more than 300 activities have been organized around reading for all audiences: round tables, conferences, debates, storytelling, book presentations and workshops of different types. Daily the organization of the fair publishes on its Instagram profile the program of each day.
In total, 365 booths are deployed on this occasion by the Paseo de Coches of the Madrid park. There are 59 from specialized bookstores, 62 from general bookstores, 214 from publishers, 13 from distributors and 17 from official organizations (such as the Ministry of Industry and Tourism or the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, which are participating for the first time).
Special tribute to New York
This edition pays tribute to New York, a metropolis with a great literary tradition in English and another no less important (though less extensive) in Spanish. There will be an approach to New York authors who write in English, giving space to a generation of voices that represent the new republic of Latin American literature in the American metropolis.

How to find out if the park will be closed due to the weather
The same day that the 2025 Book Fair was inaugurated, the Retiro Park had to close due to a red alert from the AEMET. This circumstance can happen again as long as certain adverse weather conditions are met, affecting not only the Retiro, but also other parks.
To be aware of what is its status, you can consult this map of Geoportal of the Madrid City Council and check the social networks of the FLM to see if there is any kind of warning.
More literature in Valladolid
The Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), one of the most vibrant literary meetings in the world, lands in Valladolid from June 5 to 8 with an edition that strengthens the cultural ties between India and Spain. Names such as Sheena Patel, Jesús Ruiz Mantilla, Romy Gill or Marcus du Sautoy star in an eclectic program that ranges from fiction to cuisine, passing through mythology and critical thinking. More than a festival, the JLF is presented as a diplomatic bridge with a vocation for the future, and its appointment in Valladolid -the only non-English-speaking venue of the event- promises to be one of the best plans for this weekend.
