After the festivities of May 2 and San Isidro, the capital rests of verbenas, but not for long. Madrid is a city that lives intensely its popular festivals, and what remains of the year 2025 promises a full agenda of celebrations by districts and neighborhoods, where music, gastronomy and tradition come together to fill every corner of the capital with life. From the great verbenas castizas to the most authentic neighborhood festivals, the calendar extends into autumn, with proposals for all tastes and ages.
One of the big events in late spring are the Fiestas de Aluche, which are held from May 31 to June 8 at the Aluche Park Fairgrounds. The program includes free concerts by groups such as Seguridad Social, Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Cachimba, Efecto Pasillo and Los Manolos, as well as children’s activities, folk festivals, days for the elderly and a big fireworks display to close the festival.
In parallel, other neighborhoods such as Ensanche de Vallecas also celebrate their popular festivities in May, from the 19th to the 25th, with days full of activities for the whole family: from chess games and storytelling to concerts, dance exhibitions and the traditional popular paella.
Verbenas: the most eagerly awaited summer festivals
Madrid’s summer is synonymous with verbenas in the center and south of the city. August is the month of the most castizo festivities, with three celebrations that fill the streets of the Centro district with gallinejas and chotis:
- San Cayetano: from August 5 to 8, in the Lavapiés neighborhood.
- San Lorenzo: from August 9 to 12, in Lavapiés and surroundings.
- La Virgen de la Paloma: from August 14 to 17, in La Latina.
During these days, the streets are decorated with lanterns, the neighbors dress up as chulapos and chulapas, and there are processions, shawl contests and open-air musical performances. These are festivities open to all, where tradition and popular art are the main protagonists.
