Connections between Madrid and the United States continue to grow. Since Sunday, March 29, Iberia has been operating its first direct flight between Barajas and Newark Liberty Airport in New York.
With this addition, the airline now offers three daily flights to the New York area, as it already had daily flights to John F. Kennedy Airport. The new service departs at 7:35 p.m., with a flight time of approximately three hours, and is operated by the Airbus A321XLR, an aircraft designed for medium-range transatlantic routes .
An option for business travel

With this route, Iberia aims to become a leader in connectivity between Europe and the Americas. It seeks to expand travel options for customers heading to New York and also offer greater flexibility in schedules and fares.
According to María Jesús López Solás, the company’s Director of Commercial, Network Development, and Alliances, the route is designed for business travel, as“Newark’s proximity to Manhattan makes it an excellent option for the corporate market.”
In this way, the airline strengthens its presence at one of the busiest airports on the Atlantic and facilitates access to Manhattan’s financial district, with a total of 182 seats on each aircraft.
More flights for the summer

In addition, this new flight option arrives with the start of the summer season, during which Iberia has increased its capacity by 43% compared to last year, offering 352,055 seats between Madrid and New York, according to data provided by the company.
However, it is not the only route between Madrid and the United States. In October 2025, Iberia launched its direct flight to Orlando, and a new route to Toronto, with five weekly flights, is also scheduled to begin on June 13.
Thus, Madrid not only improves access to New York but also strengthens its connection to North America, with Iberia offering 166 weekly flights this summer.
