In March, the capital becomes the stage for Teatralia: a festival that brings international plays for all audiences to different theaters in Madrid. A great opportunity to introduce the youngest members of the family to the world of the performing arts.
Teatralia includes a program with 26 shows to enjoy in such emblematic buildings as the Teatro Circo Price, the Sala Cuarta Pared, the Centro Cultural Paco Rabal or the Teatro Pradillo.
Artists from France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Spain will take to the stages of Madrid to offer unique experiences that mix circus, video creation, performance and other artistic disciplines.
The best of Teatralia
Among the most promising shows at Teatralia are Dimanche, by Compagnie Focus and Chaliwaté. The Belgian play, to be seen on March 29 and 30 at the Teatros del Canal, explores the relationship between human beings and the forces of nature, and uses different resources such as music and visual effects. Flora also stands out: an Italian fusion of circus and theater focused on visual narrative.
The festival will host literary adaptations such as A la gloria de Gloria Fuertes, a recreation of the writer’s poetic universe, or the puppet version of the story The Wizard of Oz. It will also include proposals without dialogue, such as Do hajan! (Let’s go to sleep!) or To je andělení! (What little angels!), two international works that seek to convey emotions through visual and body language.
In addition, this year the festival pays tribute to Luis Matilla, the famous magician who modernized children’s theater in Spain in the 1960s. There will be a special performance in his honor: Matilla, el hombre de las cien manos, directed by Olga Margallo.
