If you’re using the Circular Line this coming weekend, you’ll need to plan ahead. From November 7–9 and November 21–22, Metro de Madrid will suspend train service on Line 6 between Arganzuela-Planetario and Ciudad Universitaria, including the section along Avenida América (eastern segment).
The first closure will take place on Monday, November 9, a holiday celebrating Our Lady of La Almudena. The Community of Madrid has scheduled the work for weekends and holidays to minimize inconvenience to passengers.
How to get around during the closure

The Arganzuela-Planetario and Ciudad Universitaria stations will remain open and will serve as temporary terminal stations for the rest of the line. To cover the closed section, Metro de Madrid will provide a special free bus service that will operate above ground for the duration of the disruption.
The suspension is part of the safety testing schedule designed to validate the line’s new systems. The new automated trains will begin running to test the safety systems and evaluate various operating conditions. Test speeds will be gradually increased until commercial operating parameters are reached, with all systems fully integrated.
The transformation of Line 6 is one of Metro de Madrid’s major technological projects. It requires coordinating station and signaling systems with the track and rolling stock, so an extensive verification process must be completed before the line can be put into service.
Once automation is operational, the line’s capacity could increase from the current 400,000 daily passengers to 730,000. With this, the company aims to meet the projected growth in demand on one of the capital’s main transit corridors.
