Madrid City Council maintains its program of subsidies for sustainable mobility within the Cambia 360 plan. And it offers up to 400 euros per bike to those who opt to leave the car and move in a cleaner way. The measure is designed to reduce emissions, yes, but also to convince those who are still doubting whether it is worth it or not to get one.
Who can apply for the aid (and which bikes are eligible)

The aid covers up to 50% of the cost of the vehicle, with a ceiling of 400 euros, but there are several technical requirements to be met. The bicycle has to be new, with electric pedal assistance (i.e. not just any bike with a motor), not exceed 250 watts of power and cut the thrust when reaching 25 km/h or if you stop pedaling.
In addition, it must have front and rear lights, mudguards and a kickstand. Second-hand bikes, or bikes purchased outside the established period, will not be admitted.
The call is open to adults registered in Madrid before April 15, 2025, who acquire the bicycle between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025. Neither before nor after.
How to apply for the 400 euro subsidy
The procedure is done exclusively online through the electronic headquarters of the Madrid City Council, in the Micromobility section. It is free and no digital certificate is required. It is only necessary to fill in the form, attach the DNI or NIE, the purchase invoice and the proof of payment. Once approved, the money is paid directly into the applicant’s account.
The total budget of the program amounts to 200,000 euros and, according to the latest data, there is still more than 140,000 euros to be distributed. Applications are approved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Less rent, more bike ownership

This aid comes at a time when electric bike rental services have dwindled in Madrid. After the withdrawal of companies like Bird, Lime or Dott, getting your own electric bike is a more than reasonable alternative.
It is also a further push towards sustainable urban mobility, one of those expressions that sound like a technical report headline, but that increasingly require more weight in everyday life: fewer cars, less noise, less carbon dioxide and more space to move around.
