Culture, art, is one of the refuges for the people of Madrid who resist the summer in the capital, but outside the M-30 the Community of Madrid also has a special program to lighten the summer evenings. This summer, the squares will transform their squares and streets into living art stages with the program Arte vivo en la plaza, part of the Escenas de Verano 2025 festival. From July 18 to September 7, eleven municipalities in the region will host free, participatory artistic interventions, bringing contemporary creation to all audiences outside traditional spaces.
A festival that brings art to the streets of the region
For almost two months, artists such as José Venditti, María Sánchez, Emmanuel Carvajal, Andrea Saiz and Checho Tamayo will take their proposals to emblematic squares in municipalities such as Chinchón, Buitrago del Lozoya, Manzanares El Real, Bustarviejo, Rascafría-El Paular, El Escorial, Navalcarnero, Valdemorillo, Villaviciosa de Odón, Alcalá de Henares and Villalbilla. Each meeting, lasting ninety minutes, will allow the public to enjoy performances, installations, live portraits and collective actions.
Among the proposals are:
- Tiempo Villas by José Venditti: an itinerant sound creation that records and reinterprets the everyday sounds of each locality, weaving a network of acoustic memories between municipalities.
- Nostalgia by María Sánchez: an ephemeral action in which attendees collaborate to move a beam of light through mirrors, symbolizing the fragility and strength of human cooperation.
- Yo, en color by Emmanuel Carvajal: abstract and colorful portraits made live, where each participant takes his or her own work.
- Lo que se dice volar by Andrea Saiz: a performance inspired by the paradox of the bee’s flight, which invites us to challenge the limits of the possible.
- Oxímoron by Checho Tamayo: a piece that fuses soccer and dance, exploring movement and collective emotion.

Escenas de Verano: theater, circus, music and more
The Escenas de Verano festival not only bets on contemporary art, but also includes theater, music, dance, circus and outdoor cinema in dozens of municipalities, bringing accessible and decentralized culture to all parts of the region. The squares and streets thus become authentic museums and open stages, where art is experienced and shared in community. The program will begin on July 4 and will run until September 7.
