
At approximately 12:35h. thousands of Madrid citizens have been left without electricity.
All kinds of activity related to electricity consumption -from teleworking to turning on traffic lights or subway service- has been stopped in its tracks. The power outage has affected several areas while mobile data (which also offers errors) reported network outages in areas ranging from Gran Via to Alonso Martinez through Hortaleza and Pinar de Chamartin.
The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, has asked citizens to minimize the number of trips.
Many districts of Madrid have already recovered electricity. According to the newspaper El Mundo, some of these districts are Fuencarral, Arganzuela, Villaverde, Vallecas, Tetuán, Salamanca, Retiro or Moncloa. Also other districts such as Chamberí or Ciudad Lineal. Also in areas such as Plaza Elíptica or Conde de Casal.
The recovery of electricity in Madrid, as reported by Red Eléctrica de España, started at 18:45h.
Radio Nacional Española also reports that at about 20:00h the power was restored in some municipalities such as Torrelodones, Getafe, Leganés, Pinto or Majadahonda. And likewise in Colmenar Viejo, Collado Villalba or towns in the mountains such as Los Molinos. Óscar Puente, Minister of Transport, has informed at 10 pm that the power has been restored in the command center of Atocha Station.
Red Eléctrica de España (REE) has reported that the power supply has been restored in some areas in the north and south of the region. According to sources of the Community of Madrid quoted by EFE, these municipalities have already recovered the electricity service.
