Madrid will start 2026 with new cab fares and an average increase of 2.38% that will be noted, above all, in the price per kilometer and in the hourly rate, while the lowering of the flag remains the same in the main sections. The update, approved by the Price Commission of the Consumer Council of the Community of Madrid at the proposal of the City Council, comes into force on January 1 and is below the CPI of November 2025, which is around 3%. The objective, according to the Consistory, is to balance the rising costs of the sector with an “economically viable and predictable” service for the user.
In fare 1, the one that applies from Monday to Friday working days from 7:00 to 21:00, the starting price of the service does not change, but the kilometer goes from 1.35 to 1.40 euros, and the waiting hour rises from 26.50 to 27 euros. This is the reference most used by those who move around the city during office hours, so that, in practice, daytime urban journeys will be slightly more expensive, but without surprises when the taximeter is started.
Fare 2, the night and weekend fare (every day from 21:00 to 7:00 and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 7:00 to 21:00), also maintains the lowering of the flag, but raises the price per kilometer from 1.50 to 1.60 euros and the hourly price from 28.50 to 29 euros. In other words, leaving or returning by cab at night, or using it on Sundays, will be somewhat more expensive in terms of distance and time, but with an increase that the City Council describes as “moderate” and in line with the costs of fuel, maintenance and insurance.
Short distances, airport and other fares

One of the most visible increases is that of fare 7, designed for very short urban journeys, less than 1.45 kilometers and operating 24 hours a day. The fixed price goes from 7.50 to 8 euros, a figure that was not touched since the creation of this modality in 2019. From that distance, the taximeter continues to add according to whether it corresponds to fare 1 or 2, with the new prices per kilometer and hour.
As for trips to the airport, fare 4 is maintained: a fixed amount for trips between Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport and any point within the perimeter of the M-30, with no additional supplements. Fare 3, for journeys between Barajas and destinations outside the M-30 that do not exceed 9 km, also retains its initial amount, although the price per distance and time, once this section has been exceeded, is updated with the new ordinary fares.
In practical terms, most of the usual cab journeys will go up a few cents per kilometer and a little more on long journeys or those with long waiting times, but there will be no abrupt changes in the flag-down or flat fares to the airport.
The City Council defends that the revision comes after negotiating with the main associations of the sector such as the Professional Taxi Federation among others.
