The symbolic centerpiece of the new Ventas Park will not be a bench or a sculpture, but rather a monumental fountain that will rank among the tallest in Madrid. The City Council, through the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, will erect a water monolith up to 10 meters tall on the new green platform above the M-30, which will serve as the park’s grand entrance from the Salamanca district. Foundation work has just begun, and city plans call for the fountain to be ready this fall—even ahead of the full opening of the green bridge, scheduled for 2027.
According to the design presented by the City Council, it is a vertical monolith composed of three curved reinforced concrete walls, ranging in height from 7 to 10 meters. The water features—water screens, waterfalls, and jets—will be arranged atop these walls, transforming the structure into a contemporary monumental fountain that draws more closely on the language of architecture than that of classical sculpture.
The structure will be located in Plaza de la América Española. From Cibeles, City Hall maintains that “it will serve as an urban landmark visible from a distance”—in other words, it will be seen as a recognizable landmark on the skyline of this relatively quiet neighborhood of Ventas, with a sidelong view of the M-30.
Taller than Cibeles and Neptuno (but not the tallest in Madrid)
At 10 meters, one of the three curved walls of the Parque Ventas fountain will place it directly on the second rung of the ranking of Madrid’s tallest fountains. It will surpass in height two of the city’s great icons: Cibeles and Neptuno, whose stone sculptures stand at around 8 meters.
The tallest monumental fountain in Madrid will remain the Juan de Villanueva Fountain in Parque del Oeste, which stands 21 meters tall—twice as high as the new fountain in Ventas. But the intention is clear: City Hall wants the park’s entrance to feature a striking element that fits into the city’s tradition of grand urban fountains while, at the same time, updating that tradition with a more megalithic and contemporary aesthetic.
Ventas Park: a 16,370 m² green bridge over the M-30
The fountain will adorn one of the entrances to one of the legislative session’s flagship projects: Parque Ventas, the green bridge that will span a section of the M-30 to connect the Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal districts both for pedestrians and through landscaping. The project will create a new 16,370 m² space above the highway, linking the Quinta de la Fuente del Berro with the green area on the other side of the ring road via a platform approximately 197 meters long.
The project, with an investment of approximately 70–79 million euros, began in 2025 and will continue through the spring of 2027. A total of 960 trees and more than 48,800 shrubs will be planted on the structure, and the area will feature playground equipment, calisthenics stations, a performance area, a bandstand, fountains, benches, and trash cans.
