Madrid, 80’s. Ana Torroja and brothers José María and Nacho Cano begin to write their history as a band, and not just any band, but one that would be called to revolutionize Spanish pop with their unmistakable stamp. Mecano was born and was about to change everything. Their music, influenced by techno-pop and new wave, soon defined an era with hits like Hijo de la Luna, Cruz de Navajas and Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar. Songs that became the soundtrack of a generation and, in a way, still are. And there is something about Mecano that never goes out of style.
From Madrid to stardom: Mecano and their bond with the capital city
Madrid was much more than just a backdrop for Mecano, it was their home, their inspiration and also their springboard. From the Chamberí neighborhood, the trio of artists grew up immersed in the incessant beat of a city that, in full cultural effervescence, seemed to be on the verge of reinventing itself. It was in those years of La Movida, among the hustle and bustle of those small bars and venues full of promise, where they continued to find their place, leaving their mark on a Madrid that never stopped chanting their songs.
We are talking about Maquillaje, La Fuerza del Destino and also other songs like Mujer contra Mujer or El Fallo Positivo, transgressive anthems that talked about lesbianism and HIV, and that managed to connect beyond the music. A connection —with the public and with Madrid— that was immortalized in the 1992 concerts at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, where Mecano consolidated their status as a living legend of Spanish pop.
A light-filled tribute to a glittering musical legacy
In the elegant lounge of the Wellington Hotel, where time seems to stand still amidst its history and sophisticated décor, Mecano’s music will shine (again), albeit in an even more special way. Under the glow of thousands of candles, the string quartet Parallel Quartet will reinterpret their greatest hits with the passion, talent and magic they deserve. A golden opportunity that will come this January for you and yours to be thrilled again with your favorite music, in its most intimate version… and classic.
Dare to rediscover the music of one of the most important bands of our country as never before: at the Wellington Hotel, among thousands of candles and with the chords of violins, viola and cello. A perfect plan to start the year on the right foot and with a soundtrack to match.
