Thirty-eight kilometers west of Madrid we find Valdemorillo, a village where great Spanish royalty, such as Juan II and Enrique IV, took possession of beautiful pavilions and palaces abandoned after the Reconquest. Today it is a pleasant town of cultural interest that every year travels back in time to celebrate its traditional medieval market.
On Friday, June 28th, the market of Valdemorillo will begin begins with juggling, fanfare and parades on Avenidade Segovia. The children’s area will open first, and then, starting at 6:30 p. m., characters such as El Duende Froilán, El Jorobado de No Me Dan or El Bufón Rojo (The RedJester) will be introduced. While these enchanted figures perform, we can browse the market’s 60 craft stalls to the sound of medieval melodies. They will sell leather, steel and silver objects, soaps, creams and, of course, a wide range of local sausages. In addition to all this, there will be archery games for children and adults to practice their aim.
The market will also open during the weekend with the same dynamics as on Friday: fantastic characters, music, craft stalls and games for all audiences. It will end on Sunday 30 with a farewell parade that will collaborate with all the acting companies invited to the event. Although the Program’s schedules may change, the Valdemorillo City Council has just published a reference route where all activities can be consulted.
